Applesauce for dinner

Tonight was bring your favorite food of the moment to the table and have dinner. The goal was to avoid cooking and fighting (mostly me fighting with Eli about what was acceptable for dinner tonight)
Ethan brought applesauce
Eli brought tortilla chips
Jonah brought graham crackers and milk
I brought strawberries and breakfast sausages (that I had already started cooking, before the brilliant plan was hatched).
The conversation was unparalled.
Ethan: (singing) I LIKE BIG BUTTS and I cannot lie... mom PLEASE teach me the rest of the song!!!!! I LOVE that song. We heard it on Shark Tales at Auntie Kim's today.
Eli: I LIKE BIG BUTTS and I cannot lie...
Jonah: (higher voice)I I I I Like big butts and I cannot lie.. hee hee hee
Me: What did Auntie Kim say about that song?
Ethan: She said she LOVES it, she said it's her favorite song
Me: Oh. (thinking: I totally like that song, maybe I should borrow Shark Tales so I can listen to it- does the guy who wrote that really like big butts? do some guys really like big butts? I bet Ethan would like the part about the anaconda... i can't believe that my kids know that song! I didn't know songs like that til I was like... 20!)
Maybe we can say something instead of butts... like (nuts? nah..) uhhhh How about HUTS!!

Ethan: Like Jabba the hut?
Me: no, like a house
Ethan: Why is Jabba called a hut? Why are they all called huts?
Eli: How does Han Solo understand Chewy all the time??
Me: Han Solo speaks Wookie (duh) and Han Solo and Chewy have been friends for a LONG time
Which somehow lead to:
Ethan: King Tut had a butt what color was it... green! g-r-e-e-n...
Jonah: kkkking Tut had a butt what color was it... Seven! 1-2-3..

Which somehow lead to Eli dropping his applesauce.
And then dumping what didn't make it to the floor on Janie's head.
And then I was really confused about WHY you would dump your applesauce on your baby sisters head, after you had successfully sprayed it 6 feet across the floor. Confounded. I was confounded. (Can you tell I have been reading Harry Potter?) A wand would have come in handy tonight:)

Paul and Jane tie the knot

Paul and Jane were married June 27 in the Denver Colorado temple! Curtis and I and the kids drove out, it was a tad longer than we expected! 13 hours turns into 16 or 17 pretty quickly with multiple bathrom breaks. We left Thursday at about 6:30 am and got in at 10:30 pm. We had fun swimming in the pool and catching up with all the LaClaire's and Slagowski's and meeting Jane's family was great.

Did you know that the #1 kid rule of summer is to change your clothes at least 3 times a day? And then when mom tells you to clean up all of those clothes, stuff them in the hamper no matter what condition they are in?? I can't seem to get on top of that and the dishes and house... it has been intense around here. The reality of 4 kids home all day is, real...

So having said that I will resign myself to a quick blog here and there just to keep up, but I really want more time to write and perfect each one, but that isn't a possibility... maybe in the fall it will be, check the ticker for the countdown to kindergarten!!! I'm also a dying to pick HP and the Half Blood Prince again, (thanks Noelle) priorities, priorities!

The week after the wedding, MN open house for the happy, beautiful couple here at 5518 105th Ave. I had a few moments of high anxiety at 5:45 when the food wasn't ready and the chocolate fountain was exploding on the deck, but after we moved the fountains, and Sandy came with the food, the night was great.

The past few weeks have reminded me that Curtis and I are no longer the newlyweds in the family! Paul was 12 when we got married, and get this (deep breath) Jane graduated from HIGH SCHOOL in 2007!!!!!!!! What is going on here? Who is this couple with 4 kids who were born in the 70's??? That can't be us! We're still just playing house, or at least it feels that way!

Ethan: We're gonna have a bus EVAPORATION day. We have to get off the bus and pretend something happened.

Ethan: If you're 18 and under and you go to jail, you go to JUDY... Justin Lapicola told me that.


Ethan: Mom, do you know what pecuninate means? It means if you really don't want to do something, like I pecuninate silverware!

Janie Kate was 9 months on June 19! She is crawling around and is a pro and getting her hands on what she wants. She can open cupboards and drawers now too, but she is not too destructive... yet! At Paul's wedding (more to come) Jane's gramdma said that she thought JK looked like Paul. After watching some old home videos tonight I have to agree. Their eyes are so smiley and dark.

We also went to Ben and Julia LaClaire's wedding a few weeks ago and Great-Grandpa LaClaire was there. Eli came with us, it was his special date night with mom and dad. We had fun going to Target together after the wedding, where Eli honed is negotion skills further. He ended up with a $3 playmobil viking guy, which made both parties happy. 4 generations of LaClaires make a pretty nice picture I think!
